How a deal actually holds together

The escrow is the reason a stranger will ship to you before you have their goods. Understand it and you understand the whole transaction.

An order on Nexus is straightforward once you have watched it happen once. The judgement is all in the reading you do first and in letting the escrow do its work rather than jumping the gun.

Read the vendor first

Before the product, read the seller. This is where the market's depth earns its keep. Look at how many orders they have completed, how recent the good reviews are, how they answered the bad ones, and how long they have been active. A deep clean history beats a slightly cheaper listing from a name that turned up last week, every time.

How the escrow works

Paying does not put the coin in the seller pocket. It locks into a shared 2 of 3 multisig vault, a wallet that only opens when two of its three keyholders agree, and those keyholders are you, the seller and Nexus itself. The vendor can see the order is paid but cannot reach the funds, so they ship. Once the parcel arrives and it is what you ordered, you approve the release, your key turns together with the seller key, and the money moves on.

When it goes wrong

If nothing shows up, or what shows up is not right, you raise a dispute rather than approving the order. That hands the casting vote to Nexus, whose key breaks the tie, and its staff weigh the evidence each side puts forward alongside the seller track record. A trader with a long clean run and one having a rough week get very different benefit of the doubt, which is one more reason to read that history before you buy.

Never release early

Releasing before delivery, sometimes called finalizing early, throws away the protection you just paid for. A seller may ask for it. With anyone whose record you have not tested, agreeing means your coin is gone and the arbitration route shuts at the same instant. Wait until the parcel is physically with you and correct before you approve anything at all.
